Janet Tapp, 89 of Itasca went to be with her Lord on February 2, 2013 in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be at 10:00AM, Friday, February 8th at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro with Rev. Sam Houston officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Burial Park in Waxahachie. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00PM, Thursday at the funeral home.

Born March 3, 1923 in Fabens, Janet began playing the piano for church at the young age of seven, and continued to play and serve in a music ministry for the next 77 years.

After graduating from high school in Fabens, she married Vernon H. Tapp in El Paso, just before her new husband left to fight in World War II. Following the War, the couple moved to Jacksonville where they both attended Jacksonville Baptist College.

For more than 30 years, the couple served Bellaire Baptist Church in Port Arthur, where Vernon was pastor. Janet served variously as pianist, organist, and song director through the years.

In 1979, they moved to Itasca where Vernon filled the pulpit of First Baptist Church until his retirement. Throughout their many years together, Janet was the epitome of a dedicated pastor's wife.

Janet was a member of First Baptist Church of Itasca and was active in the Women's Missionary Auxiliary of the Baptist Missionary Association, where she held several offices, including most recently that of Historian.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Rev. Vernon Tapp of Itasca; one son, Gary Tapp and wife, Sue also of Itasca; a sister, Peggy Ann Moore; 5 grandchildren, Brian and Clayton Tapp, both of Spring, Tina Tapp of Fort Worth, Amy Hazelden of Kodiak, Alaska, and Paulene Brown of Bridge City, Texas; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a son, William James "Bill" Tapp; and 3 brothers and a sister.
