Jan was born in McGregor, Texas on April 6, 1947 to Mark and Lou Haima. The family moved to Whitney, Texas when Jan and her twin sister, Nan, were six months old. They lived in Whitney throughout Jan's childhood and high school years.
Jan and Nan graduated from Whitney High School and went on to attend Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth. With Bachelor's Degrees in Elementary Education, they moved to Houston to begin their teaching careers.
Nan died of cancer in 1997 and Jan soloed on without her beloved twin sister.
MacArthur Elementary would be Jan's headquarters for introducing hundreds of children to the world of kindergarten during her 36-year teaching career. This she did with enthusiasm and innovation and was named Teacher of the Year for MacArthur at one point. She enjoyed the faculty and valued the teachers with whom she worked. Many, many of her students have attested to how "Miss Haima" shaped their futures.
Jan was married briefly to Perry Lankford of Houston.
Jan visited her sister, Carol, in Helena, Montana often. She was there for the Christmas holidays. After a wonderful Christmas Day and family time together she suddenly fell ill on December 26th. She died as a result of two strokes on December 28, 2017.
Survivors include her sister, Carol and Carol's husband Don Harriott; and Carol's children, Kim Reed of New York City and Todd McKerrow of San Diego, California who mourn the loss of their doting, supportive and beloved aunt. She also leaves Brian Bourg, widower of her twin sister Nan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Lou Haima and her sister, Nan Haima Bourg.
