Biography

Jean Allen, 84, of Whitney, passed away at her residence on July 6, 2015, and her husband, Cecil Allen, 88, of Whitney, passed away on July 7, 2015, at a Waco hospital. A joint memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 9, 2015, at the Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney.

Jean was born on May 14, 1931, in Fort Worth, the daughter of Homer Norris and Pearl (Ables) Neel. On May 14, 1948, she married Cecil Y. Allen. She was also very active in the Lake Whitney Arts Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Donald Neel, and she is survived by a sister, Brenda Shook and husband, Ben.

Cecil was born on March 17, 1927, in Fort Worth, the son of Jasper and Alice (Bing) Allen. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. An avid fisherman, he also raised Boer goats for many years and he particularly enjoyed helping kids to raise and show goats. He served as a deacon at First Baptist Church and also at the Missionary Baptist Church in Whitney .

Both Jean and Cecil were members of the American Quarter Horse Association and she helped him take care of the goats. They were also members of the Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jean Allen, on July 6, 2015, and a brother, Dan Allen.

He is survived by a brother, Howard Allen and a sister Helen Estes.

They are both survived by their children, La Roy Allen and wife, Sheila and Jeanie Silva and husband, Clem; eight grandchildren, Stephen Allen, Becky Gregory and husband, Roger, Ricky Allen, David Allen and wife, Jena, Royce Allen and wife Heather, Michael Silva and wife, Ashlee, Phillip Silva and wife, Laurie and Ty Silva; nine great-grandchildren, Brenden Gregory, Britney Gregory, Lilly Silva, Emmy Silva, Bailey Allen, Chloe Allen, Gracie Allen, Noah Allen and Eli Allen; nieces, Tammy, Carolyn and Rayna; nephews, Jerry, Terry, Lee, Ronnie, George, Jody and Mike; several great-nieces and great-nephews as well as other relatives and a host of friends.
