Jean Hamm

Jean Hamm, 82, of Peoria passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2012, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Bro. Ken Steffen officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Jean was born August 30, 1929 in Harpersville, AL to William and Addie (Presley) Weathers. On September 8, 1947 she married L. P. Hamm and he preceded her in death on October 20, 2010. She worked at Woods Sewing Factory in Hillsboro before moving to Taylor, where she worked for St. John’s Community Hospital, retiring in 1995. Upon retirement, she returned to Peoria to be near her family.

She was loving and nurturing to children and was known as “Nanny” to all. Jean was a big NASCAR fan and especially followed Jeff Gordon’s career. She was of the Baptist faith.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; daughters, Phyllis Carroll and Melba Williams; and a grandson, Eddie Carroll, Jr.

Survivors include her three daughters, Mary Del Monte and husband, Peter, of Irving, Brenda Moreno and husband, Mark, of Peoria, and Gloria Shadwick of Hillsboro; two sons-in-law, John Williams and Eddie Carroll; brother, Wayne Weathers of Alabama; two sisters, Bobbie Brady and Ludie Grantham both of Alabama; 7 grandchildren, Bryan Mitchell, Ronnie Williford, Heather Downing, Jason Williams, William Shadwick, Wayne Shadwick, and Bryan Del Monte; 8 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandson.
