Jean Tekell, 82, of Hillsboro passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011, at her residence.


Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.


She was born June 12, 1928 in the Lovelace Community of Hill County to Cyrus Field and Estella Elizabeth (Davis) Blissett. In 1945, she graduated from Whitney High School. Following school, she worked at S&H Kress Co. in Hillsboro until her marriage to Harold Tekell on June 14, 1947 in Hillsboro. The couple lived in the Brandon Community until 1956 when they moved to Italy. They returned to Hillsboro in 1970.


Jean was a farmers wife, helping her husband on the farm while maintaining her household. She was an excellent seamstress and made clothes for herself and her family. She also enjoyed cross stitching and preparing meals for family and friends.


She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro and a past member of Les Causeuses Club.


Preceding her in death were her parents; husband on September 7, 2007; and two sisters, Willie McCauley and Lolita Damron.


Survivors include her four children, Larry Tekell and wife, Candy, of Itasca, Cindy Young and husband, Andy, of Hillsboro, Jay Tekell and wife, Lou Nan, of Waxahachie, and Jill Martin and husband, Jeff, of Flower Mound; six grandchildren, Dee Tekell, Kalen Tekell, Mac Tekell, Jett Tekell, Benjamin Martin, and Katie Martin; nephew, Sonny Damron and wife, Sheila; and niece, Debra Scott and husband, David.
