Jeanette Hawkins

Jeanette Hawkins, 96, of Hillsboro passed away Friday evening, September 5, 2014 at Town Hall Estates in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, September 8, 2014 at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Mr. Gene Edens and Mr. Glenn Standly officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Sunday at the funeral home.

Jeanette was born to the late Ruel Eddington and Jessie Tulula (Nuckols) Turner on March 5, 1918, in Itasca. She was raised in Itasca and attended school there. On October 13, 1934, she married Joe W. Hawkins at the age of 16. The couple spent the next 71 years together before Joe preceded her in death on November 10, 2005. For most of their married life, the couple resided in Hillsboro where they were part-owners of Hawk and High Grocery for 44 years.

A devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, Jeanette loved cooking and caring for her family, especially her mother and husband in their later years. She was a very faithful and dedicated member of her church, College Hill Church of Christ, rarely missing a service when she was able to attend. In her spare time, she also enjoyed oil painting.

Survivors include her daughter, Jan McClure, and husband, Ronnie, of Hillsboro; grandson, Michael McClure of Richardson; many friends; and “grand-dog”, Lola.
