Jerry Cook

Jerry Bert Cook joined his Father in heaven on Friday, April 1st, 2022, in Whitney, TX.

Jerry was born on July 2, 1955, in Los Angeles, CA to Jo Ann Romey and Donald George Cook. He was raised in California and moved to Stephenville, Texas in 1978 where he resided until 1984 when he moved to Dallas, Texas. Jerry married Barbara Schermer on 6/22/1985 in Stephenville, TX. Jerry and Barbara Cook were married for 37 years and resided in Stephenville until relocating to Whitney, TX in 1990, which was their home until his death. He became a heavy machine operator in Stephenville while working with Danny Johnson at the City of Stephenville Water Department and continued that line of work until his retirement in 2017 from Hillsboro Sand & Gravel (owned by Clay Grayson). Jerry was the best heavy machine operator ever born. Jerry was also a proud member of the United States Marine Corps; bravely serving as a 7051 A/C Crash F & R Man (Firefighter) from 1973 to 1976.

Jerry was also a long-time member of Alcoholics Anonymous and passed away with 26 years of continuous sobriety. Jerry had a service mindset and never hesitated to help another person or animal in distress. Jerry and his wife were also members of the Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney, TX. Jerry cared deeply about his community; establishing and managing the "Feed my Sheep" program with Barbara, feeding the hungry in their area monthly for over three years. He served God throughout his entire lifetime and always thought of others and always expressed his faith to others through a loving example.

Jerry Cook had no children and was preceded in death by his father Donald George Cook of Los Angeles, CA, Leonard Caccioppo of Kingman, AZ (who was injured on the beaches of Normandy in WW II); and oldest Brother, Michael Jack Cook, also from CA. Jerry is survived by his mother Jo Ann Caccioppo of Kingman, Arizona; older brother Stephen George Cook and his wife Irene Kaplan, of Los Angeles, CA, nephew SSgt  USMC-Iraq RET, Justin Kyle Braithwaite, and his wife Amanda Braithwaite of Corpus Christi, TX, niece Kim and her husband TSgt, DAV,USAF David McManus as well as nieces, nephews and cousins residing out of state.

Though Jerry had no children he was involved with Kyle and Kim for most of their lives and loved them as his own always. He was faithful, loving, sweet, protective, a great cook and responsible Man of God in their household. He will be sorely missed and adored by his wife Barbara, until they meet again in the arms of their Heavenly Father and their Savior, Jesus Christ.

A memorial service will be held on April 23, 2022, 11:00 AM at Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney, Texas located at 582 FM 1713, Whitney, TX 76692. All are welcome to come to celebrate and remember the Jerry Cook you knew and loved.
