Jerry "Pokey" Kinard, 73, of Hillsboro, died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at Hill Regiona Hospital in Hillsboro. Jerry was born March 25, 1923 in Dallas, Texas the son of Gerald Fred and Mary Frances Davis Kinard. Jerry was raised in Hillsboro and lived there most of his life. He graduated from Hillsboro High School and was very involved in football where he was a captain of the football team. He also played football at Weatherford Junior College before serving in the Navy for four years. In 1951 he married Geraldine Hollingsworth and the couple had five children. They lived in Alvin where he worked in the oil industry and for NASA following his graduation from Texas A&I. He returned to Hillsboro in 1972. On January 14, 1984 he married Peggy Zerwin. He went to work for Certainteed Corp. upon his return to Hillsboro, retiring after 18 years. In January of 1991 he opened Kinard Electric. He was a loving grandfather known as ?Pop? to all of his grandchildren. Jerry was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro and past member and President of the Optimist Club working with the club?s youth baseball program. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Kinard of Hillsboro; five children, Judy Torrealba, Ginny Lewis, Jan Williams, Gary Kinard, and Greg Kinard; four step-children, Susan Raines, Julie Dean, David Zerwin, and Thomas Zerwin; two sisters, Joyce Anthony of Memphis, TN and Jo Ann Frankum of Princeton, TX; thirteen grandchildren, Shawn Lewis, Chad Lewis, Josh Ward-Lewis, Kimberly Courtwright, Jeremy Kinard, Brian Isbell, Mollie Isbell, Kaleigh Isbell, Drue Kinahan, Trevor Kinahan, Kevin Torrealba, Clayton Kinard, and Daphne Kinard; seven step-grandchildren, Tiffany Colson, Aubrey Zerwin, Sara Raines, Robert Zerwin, Timothy Zerwin, Jackson Dean, and William Dean; seven great-grand children, Brandon Lewis, Dale Lewis, Zachary Lewis, Richard Lewis, James Lewis, Kayla Kinahan, and Nicole Courtwright; one step-great grandchild, Harleen Colson; and his two faithful dogs, Bo & Rocky.
