Jerry Montgomery, 75, of Hillsboro passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Ken James officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Born November 5, 1938 in Chillicothe, TX to Terry Jack and Dorothy (Daniel) Montgomery, Jerry graduated from high school in Grand Prairie and married Hazel Montgomery. They moved to Hillsboro shortly after their marriage. He received an Associates Degree from MCC in Old Testament Studies.
For over 20 years, Jerry worked for CertainTeed as a Traffic Manager. He also worked for CAUSE, Inc for a number of years.
Hazel preceded him in death in 1994. In October 2003, he married Mary Alice Sargent.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher, and was a very active member of the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge. An avid reader, Jerry recently considered himself an amateur mathematician.
Jerry enjoyed woodworking, especially making gifts for all of his family. He was very proud of all his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; son, Timothy Montgomery; and daughter, Linda Hunt.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Montgomery of Hillsboro; three children, Pamela Montgomery, Robert Montgomery and wife, Shelley, and Danny Montgomery and wife, Chandra, all of Hillsboro; seven step-children, Donna Story of Burleson, Denise Garnett and husband, Will, of Whitney, Carla Bennett of West, Joyce Fuller of Whitney, Ray Wolfe and wife, Kellie, of Aledo, Faith Cartwright and husband, Kevin, of Arlington, and Deona Channon and husband, Johnny Tovar, of Hillsboro; brother, Charles Montgomery of Livingston; son-in-law, Charles Hunt of Hillsboro; 33 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family.
