Jerry M. Wood, 79, of Hillsboro passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2016, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro with Dr. Carl Jennings of First Baptist Church in Whitney officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 11, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Jerry was born January 13, 1937 in Whitney to Thomas and Eula (Williams) Wood. On November 6, 1953, he was united in marriage to Etna Cornelius. In 1959, Jerry joined the National Guard and was honorably discharged on February 18, 1963. For 44 years, from 1952-1996, he was employed at the Compress in Hillsboro. Following his retirement, Jerry went to work at Latham Springs Christian Camp from 1998-2003. In his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening, doing yard work, hunting, and fishing.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Jackie McCoy Wood, Bill Wood, and Tommy Ray Wood.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Etna Wood of Hillsboro; seven children that he raised and loved, Donna Neagle Walker of Waco, Charles Neagle of Whitney, Jerry Ray Wood and wife, Theresa, of Whitney, Linda Hester and husband, Bobby, of Marshall, James Wood and wife, Joyce, of Alvarado, Billy Joe Wood of Terrell, and Melinda Whitlock of Whitney; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, PeeWee.
