Jewel Mitchell, 97, of Hillsboro passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2015, at Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Darrel Beggs officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2015, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Born March 22, 1917 in Hillsboro, she was the daughter of Taylor B. and Mary M. (Garrett) Cypert. Following her high school graduation, she volunteered at Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home in Denton for a year. During World War II, she was a riveter at Consolidated Air Craft in Fort Worth. For several years, Jewel worked as a nurse practitioner for Dr. Buie at Grant Buie Hospital.

On February 14, 1942, she married Andrew G. Raby in Whitney and he preceded her in death on August 31, 1959. She later married Presley H. Mitchell on December 23, 1972 in Dallas. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1988. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro where she attended the Bicota Sunday School Class. Jewel loved being outdoors farming, gardening, and fishing.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; son, Randy Raby in 1979; two sisters, Margie Boyse and Ruth Kugler; and three brothers, Truman Cypert, Raymond Cypert, and Bob Cypert.

Survivors include her children, Glenda Manuel and husband, Wilson, of Garland, Pete Mitchell and wife, Mary, of Jupiter, Florida, Bill Mitchell and wife, Mary, of Dripping Springs, and Joy Rodda and husband, Mike, of Garfield, Arkansas; three sisters, Patsy Williamson of Rowlett, Sibyl Hering of Alvin, and Kathleen Cain and husband, Bob, of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter-in-law, Robbe Corn of Alvin; one granddaughter, Ruth Netanel and husband, Ronny, of Katy; one great-granddaughter, Jackie Netanel; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, P. O. Box 263, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
