Jimmy Penney


Jimmy was the son of P.G. "Pat" and Lona Pierce Penney. After graduating from Bynum High School, he served as a flight engineer in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1959. On August 27, 1961, he married Betty Piel in Malone, Texas. He was employed at Owens Illinois from 1964 until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of the Gurley Masonic Lodge #337, and for many years, he was a member of the Karem Shrine motor patrol. His favorite hobbies included fishing, hunting, and camping with family and friends, as well as coaching Little League Baseball. He was a member of the Fiddle Swingsters Band for many years. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Malone. Survivors include: his wife, Betty Piel Penney of Robinson; two sons, Michael "Mike" Penney and Jackie Huffman of Hubbard, and Mark Penney and wife Laura of Lacy Lakeview; one brother, Thomas "Bud" Penney and wife Linda of Waco; one sister, Johnye Lou Hare of Bynum; and four grandchildren, Rhoda Myers and husband Joe of Waco, Michael Penney of Robinson, Chris Penney of Lacy Lakeview, and Laura Lee Penney of Lacy Lakeview; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
