Jo Ann Thompson, 74 passed away on May 15, 2011, in Hillsboro.
Services will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Whitney with Dr. Carl Jennings officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Tuesday at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.
Jo Ann was born on February 26, 1937 in Fannin County. She was the daughter of the late Cecil Edward and Sadie Wilda (McCollom) Thompson. The early years of her life were spent on the family farm in Trenton with her brothers Leon and Don. At the end of her junior year, the family moved to Dallas where she graduated from Adamson High School. She then attended Texas Womens University in Denton. She earned her masters degree in elementary education from North Texas State. She did her student teaching at J. O. Schultz Elementary School and followed with 37 years of teaching before her retirement.
The Thompson family moved to Duncanville in early 1962 and became members of Fairmeadows Baptist Church. Jo Ann served her church faithfully and respectively for over 40 years as a Sunday school teacher, UMW president and various positions on boards. She always had time for her neighbors and friends whom she valued greatly.
Survivors include her brothers, Edward Leon Thompson and wife Velma of Midlothian, Donald Mac Thompson and wife Lecell of Whitney; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
