Joann Burns

JoAnn Evelyn Burns 80, of Lake Whitney passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at a Waco hospital after succumbing to an injury from a fall. The family held a memorial service at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Ft. Graham Baptist Church. She was laid to rest at Bethlehem Cemetery.

JoAnn was born on February 17, 1935 in Royalton, New York to the late Daniel Francis and Edythe Mae ( Roberts) Witkop, the eldest of five children. She was a long time resident of Ft. Worth and North Richland Hills. On August 29,1958 she married Paul D. Burns, they were married for 52 years, prior to his death on December 5, 2010. She worked as an Administrative Assistant for a pharmaceutical firm.

JoAnn was an active member of FT. Graham Baptist Church and volunteered at the churches thrift store. She loved all animals and took great care of her beloved dog Shadow. Most people will remember her walking her dogs around the neighborhood or along FM 2604.

Preceding her in death , a brother, Jim Witkop and sister Audrey Call.

Survivors include her children, Vicki Hurst and husband Robert of North Richland Hills, and son Doug Burns of Richland Hills; sisters, Betty Sellers of North Richland Hills, Edythe Johnsey of Florida; grandchildren, Jason Hurst and finance Carla Prieto of Ft. Worth, Jeff Hurst of North Richland Hills; great-grandsons, Evan, Layton and Rylon, several nieces and nephews and other loving family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Ft. Graham Baptist Church, 137 FM 2604, Whitney, Texas 76692.
