Joe Edward Jackson, 83, of Whitney, Texas, was embraced by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on March 9, 2021. The family will have a quiet burial on Friday, March 12th, followed by a celebration of life at First Baptist Church of Whitney at 4:00 PM. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 on Thursday evening. Marshall & Marshall Funeral Home of Whitney is supervising his arrangements.
Joe was born on November 7th, 1937, in Pasadena, Texas. He graduated from Irving High School, received a bachelor’s degree in Education from Howard Payne College in Brownwood, TX, and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas. Joe married Ann Hendrick on August 25, 1961, and they were married for 59 years. Joe was an educator, teaching algebra before becoming an elementary and middle school principal. After working for 30 years in Grand Prairie ISD, he mentored student teachers for the University of Texas at Arlington. Joe and Ann moved to Whitney in 1997 to live on the golf course because Joe loved to fish and play golf. Over his lifetime, he achieved five holes-in-one. He was a member of the Lion’s Club, and was a Mason, Shriner, and a member of Scottish Rite of Dallas. A lifelong educator, he also served on the Whitney School Board. Joe was a Gideon and loved to study God’s Word, teaching Sunday School for over 40 years. Joe was always eager to tell people about Jesus.
Joe is survived by his sweet wife, Ann; daughters, Catherine Walton and husband Kelly of Sherman, TX, and Cindy Leatherman and husband Terry of Tolar, TX. He is also survived by four beautiful granddaughters, Holly Leatherman Parker and her husband Jaylin, Erin Walton, Amy Walton, and Abby Leatherman.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Sena Hogue Jackson; as well as his brother, Andy.
The family wishes to thank the Waterview Memory Care Center of Granbury as well as Interim Home Health and Interim Hospice of Granbury for lovingly caring for our dad. In lieu of flowers, Ann asks for donations to be given in Joe’s memory to The Gideons International for the distribution of the Gospel, or First Baptist Church of Whitney.
