Joe Peel

Joe Allen Peel, age 66, of Hillsboro passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016, at a Mansfield nursing home . Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 1, at the Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Josh Daniel officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

On December 11, 1949, Joe was born in Comanche to J. O. and Nancy Jane (Skaggs) Peel. He grew up in San Saba until moving to Hillsboro at age 16. He and Linda Helms were united in marriage on August 13, 1971 in Hillsboro. Joe worked in construction and was of the Pentecostal faith.

Music was very special to Joe. He was an excellent guitar player and enjoyed playing gospel, country and western, and classic rock and roll. He enjoyed reading his Bible and proclaiming God’s word. And when time permitted, he would be sure to get in some fishing. Joe’s family was very dear to him and he loved them unconditionally.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Linda Peel; three children, Bobbie Spradlin and husband, Ramon, of Mansfield, Tara Bassett and husband, Brian, of Itasca, and Amy Styron of Hillsboro; one brother, Kenneth Peel of Whitney; three sisters, Carolyn Torrance and husband, Floyd, of Rosenberg, Kathy Lyons of Hillsboro, and Becky Montes and husband, Bobby, of Burleson. Also among his survivors are seven grandchildren, Dylan and Tyler Cammack, Austin Spradlin, Madison, MaKenna, and Gage Bassett, and Kennedy Styron; one great-granddaughter, Avery Spradlin; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
