Joseph G. ?Joe? Taylor, 88 of Whitney passed away Thursday, July 12, 2007. Joe was born February 14, 1919 in the Prairie Valley Community to George and Ophelia Petty Taylor. In 1941, Joe married Lomelia Sampson. He was baptized at Towash Creek in 1934 and was a member of Towash Baptist Church. He was a Master Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge #355 for 55 years and a member of the Eastern Star Lodge 930 for 30 years. From 1936 until 1939, he was in the Civilian Conservation Corps in McGregor, building the Mother Neff State Park. He worked as a butcher for Connelly Grocery Store in Whitney before going to work for Shoprite Food Stores in Dallas as a Market Manager. He retired from Shoprite in 1976 after 37 years and then worked for B&W Thrifty and David?s Supermarkets until he retired in 1989. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wilburn Taylor and sister, Opal Taylor McCowan. Survivors include his wife, Lomelia of 66 years; daughter, Brenda Jo Button and husband, Brent of Hillsboro; 3 grandsons, Lonnie Button and wife, Robin of Whitney, Donnie Button and wife, Melanie of Whitney, Mark Button and wife, Arlene of Arlington; 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Mabel Stroud of Granbury, Verna Harris and husband, Bob of Kerrville, Gracie Callaway and husband, Joe Mike of Whitney; brothers, Weldon and wife, Ruth of Carrollton, Johnny and wife, Connie of Desoto, Walton ?Skeet? of Hurst, James Roland of Kerrville, Clifton and wife, Regina of Kennedale; and many nieces and nephews.
