Joe S. Wilson

Joe S. (Sammy) Wilson, 82, of Itasca, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024. A memorial graveside service with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Itasca Cemetery with Bill Heffner officiating.

Sammy was the second child born to Joe Edmond and Helen Smith Wilson. He enjoyed fifty-nine years of marriage to Louise.

He enjoyed driving the “old roads” along with Louise. They often discussed the many changes to their community over the last six decades. He loved hunting, fishing, farming, gardening and all outdoor activities. Sammy proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 to 1967, when he was honorable discharged. He was honored with the Rifle Marksmanship Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.

Preceded in death by his parents; his only son, Joe Clay Wilson; and his only sister, Susan Hix. Sammy is survived by his wife, Louise; his granddaughters, Meaghan and Shae, along with their families, Jordan and Brycen; great grandchildren, Joziah, Maiah, and Jeriko; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
