Joel Bishop

Joel Bishop, 53, of Bynum passed away Sunday evening, September 6, 2015, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2015, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Vivian Sumrow of The Sanctuary Christian Fellowship Church in Hillsboro officiating. Burial will follow at Bell Springs Cemetery near Bynum. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at the funeral home.

Joel was born October 11, 1961 in Salinas, CA to James Delbert and Glenda Joyce (Reeves) Bishop. He grew up in California and lived there many years. For over 25 years, he worked as a plant maintenance foreman. At the time of his death, he was employed by LB Foster in Hillsboro. On June 12, 2002, Joel was united in marriage to Kelli Wilson.

Anyone acquainted with Joel Bishop eventually shared his love for fishing and hunting. Before trading California’s seaports for west Texas sand, he worked on the fishing docs slinging Albacore in his early teen years. One of his favorite fishing holes was Lake Ivy. Joel and his family spent many a precious memory fishing this lake. Saturday evenings would find Joel with his best friend calling in coyotes or planning for deer season.

He was a loyal fan of the Bynum Bulldogs. Joel loved his family and his neighbors counted him as a true friend. He was a member of The Sanctuary Christian Fellowship Church in Hillsboro.

Joel towered over the crowds with his 6' 4" frame, but there was no need to be intimidated. A hug, handshake, or a smile from Joel spoke aloud the tenderness in his heart.

Joel, you are loved and will be missed.
