John Anderson, 100, of Aquilla, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2014, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday June 13, 2014, at Lebanon United Methodist church near Aquilla, with Reverend Nancy Summers and Reverend Don Elrod, officiating. John was born on October 4, 1913, in the Lebanon Community of Hill County, to William and Ella Lee (Yarborough) Anderson. He graduated from Aquilla High School in 1932 at the top of his class. On March 13, 1937, he married Lila Gregory and they shared 64 years together. John farmed the Anderson farm until he was unable to do so because of his health. He supported his community and his church in every way he could. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity for several years and was named “Volunteer of the Year” when he was 97 years of age.

John was just a good, honest, humble Christian man who loved his community, his church and his family. He was loved by his family and leaves a legacy of love and commitment to hard work and integrity that they strive to follow.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his daughter Vonceil Smith and husband, Ed; his parents; two sisters; one brother; son-in-law Howard D. Hudson.
