John Brown

John Harvey Brown, 64, of Watauga passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Medical City Dallas Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at the Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Richard Creech officiating. Burial will follow at Bell Springs Cemetery near Abbott. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, July 30, at the funeral home.

Born January 20, 1954, in Fort Worth, he was the son of Sidney “Blue” and Thelma Ruth (Gray) Brown. He grew up in Bedford and was a 1973 graduate of Trinity High School, where he played football. Following graduation, he began working at General Motors, first as a team leader, then in the body shop, and finally as a weld inspector. In 2017, he retired after 44 years of service. While working, he attended TCU and received his Bachelor’s degree. He also received a degree in Computer Technology from Devry. For almost 20 years, John worked weekends in the computer room at Presbyterian Hospital. On October 23, 1993, John was united in marriage to Cynthia Ann Ford.

An award winning ballroom dancer, John took courses in ballroom dancing at the Arthur Murray Dance Center. John enjoyed all sporting events including baseball, football, basketball, and hockey. In his spare time, he also enjoyed snow skiing, scuba diving, traveling, and attending concerts. He was of the Baptist faith.

Preceding him in death were his father, Sidney “Blue” Brown on June 10, 2018 and brother, Sidney Charles Brown on January 21, 1996.

Survivors include his loving wife of 24 years, Cynthia Brown of Watauga; mother, Thelma Brown of Abbott; children, Jennifer Rowe and husband, Tyler, of Fort Worth, Brian Ford of New Braunfels, Justin Hodges of Watauga, and April Hodges of Fort Worth; brother, David Ray Brown and wife, Marquatta, of Abbott; six grandchildren, Ryan, Angel, Michael, Dakota, Skylar, and Trystan; nephew, Colton Brown of Hurst; and several other nieces and nephews.
