John D. Carmichael, 89, of Dallas passed away Saturday morning, April 18, 2015, in a Plano hospital. Graveside services will be held at Noon on Friday, April 24, 2015, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro with Rev. Leah Hidde-Gregory of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro officiating. Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.

John was born August 12, 1925 in Hillsboro to Conway Dodson and Alpha (Swink) Carmichael. After graduating from Hillsboro High School, he joined the United States Army Air Corps and served his country during World War II. Following his military service, John returned to Hillsboro and attended Hillsboro Junior College where he met his future wife, Lu Jeanne Alldredge. The couple was married on February 3, 1949 at the First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro. After earning his Bachelor’s degree in Geology from Texas Tech University, he went to work for Sun Oil Company. John spent his entire 35 year professional career with Sun, advancing from a scout to Vice President of offshore drilling. The couple moved frequently during their early years. After five years in Midland, they made several stops in Louisiana and south Texas before moving to Dallas in 1977. John enjoyed relaxing with a round of golf and raising cattle on the farm in Italy following his retirement. He was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Plano.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife of 66 years, Lu Jeanne Carmichael on March 19, 2015; daughter; Sherry Lee Carmichael; two brothers, Conway and Alvin Carmichael; and a sister, Martha Carmichael Sparkman.

Survivors include his son, Mark Carmichael and wife, Peggy, of Farmersville; two sisters, Betty Carmichael DeCoursey of Arlington and Geneva Carmichael Keeton and husband, Omar, of Granbury; two grandchildren, Stephani Cannon and husband, Jeff, of Melissa and John S. Carmichael and fiancee, Rachel Wilson, of McKinney; four great-grandchildren, Blake E. Cannon, Grayson W. Cannon, Everett Mark Cannon, and Lyla Carmichael; and numerous nieces and nephews.
