John Holden

John Joseph Holden, 75, of Whitney passed away, Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at his residence. Military graveside services with full honors will be held at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, Monday, June 25, 2018 at 9:15 a.m. with Kevin Smith and Chester Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.

Born November 20, 1942 in Bristol, PA, he was the son of John Joseph, Jr. and Bernice (Pickart) Holden. He graduated from Bristol High school in 1960 and enlisted in the United States Air Force on July 11, 1960 and was honorably discharged in 1980 retiring as a MSGT E7. On May 27, 1988, he was united in marriage to April Diane Smith in Bristol, PA.

John was a resident of Whitney for 31 years. He worked for the Whitney Police Department for 8 years and then as an elected Constable for Hill County Pct. 2 for 12 years. He was also a cross country truck driver. He enjoyed many activities which included hunting, fishing, woodworking, and gun smithing. He was a member of the Prairie Valley Baptist Church and the Whitney Masonic Lodge #355.

Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Tina Holden; son, Tommy Holden; son, Oscar Arriola; his Nana and Pops; and an aunt, Vivienne Holden.

Survivors included wife, April Holden of Whitney; children, Paula Hess of Murray, Iowa, Charles J. Holden and wife, Isabel of San Antonio, Michelle Candelaria of Tyler, Tiffani McHenry of Waco; brother, Marty Lutz of Pennsylvania; sisters, Sandy Baker and husband, Cliff of Arlington, and Bunny Murphy of Venus; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grand children; father- in-law, Chester Smith of Whitney and mother-in-law, Gloria Smith, of Tyler.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.
