John Howard


John Thomas Howard, 68, of Whitney, passed away on April 11, 2015, at his residence. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 17, 2015 at Bethlehem Cemetery in Whitney, with Dr. Carl Jennings, officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM, Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.

John was born on January 3, 1947, in Bad Axe, Michigan, to Thomas and Mary (Finley) Howard. He grew up in Bad Axe and Mt. Pleasant , Michigan, graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School and attended college in Bay City for a year. During the late 1960's he served his country in the U.S. Army. In November of l969, he married Iva Overman. After the service, he worked at several auto dealerships in Texas and Maryland as a bookkeeper and office manager. John was past president of the Lake Whitney Golf Association and the Marlin Jaycees in Marlin, Texas. He enjoyed sports, especially golf, and he played basketball and slow pitch softball as well coaching Little League baseball.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Mary Jane Darnell and brother, Richard Howard.

Survivors include his wife Iva Howard of Whitney; children, Jeff Howard and wife, Melanie of Omaha, Nebraska, Russell Howard and wife, Chelsie of San Marcos and Kyle Howard and wife, Cynthia of San Antonio; six grandchildren, Brittni Howard and Duncan Howard of Omaha, NE, Taylor Howard and Kylee Howard of San Antonio, and Austin Howard and Jack Howard of San Marcos; brothers, Marvin Howard and wife, Kathy of Michigan, Mike Howard and wife, Fran, of Maryland and Ed Howard and wife, Dorothy of Michigan; one sister, Nancy Bell of Michigan; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Local Mission, P.O. Box 426, Whitney, Texas 76692.
