John C. Orvig, Jr., 91, of Whitney passed away Friday, June 8, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services will held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2012, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney with Rev. Dr. James Haner officiating. Interment will follow at Whitney Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Monday prior to service time.
John was born July 23, 1920 in Ireland, TX to the late John C. and Minnie E. (Bling) Orvig, Sr. During World War II, he served his country in the United States Army attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. On May 24, 1953 he married Betty Ryno. The couple lived in Fort Worth where he worked for PK Insulation. In 1968 they moved to Whitney, where he owned his own insulation business. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Whitney.
Also preceding him in death was a son, Norman Dale Orvig on July 27, 1974.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Orvig of Whitney; son, Johnnie Clifton Orvig of Hillsboro; brother, Norman Orvig and wife, Connie, of Lake Fork; two sisters, Ima Hare of Fort Worth and Uma Lee of Harker Heights; and many nieces and nephews.
