John Edward Rankin

John Edward Rankin, 82, of Wylie, Texas, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at his home in Wylie. Graveside services will take place at 2:00 pm, Friday, June 14, 2024, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro, Texas. A visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:30 pm, Friday, June 14, 2024, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors, Hillsboro.

He was born December 29, 1941, to Tony Roy and Viola Gertrude (Willis) Rankins, in Chetopa, Kansas. John served in the United States Marines for two years and was united in marriage to Betty Carol Taylor in 1962. Together, they raised three children.

John worked with the phone company for thirty-seven years as a PBX technician. He enjoyed woodworking, was mechanically inclined and worked well with his hands. The youngest of nine children, John had a great sense of humor and loved square dancing. He was of Baptist faith.

Preceded in death by his parents and his son, Rodney Rankin, John is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Greg Rankin and Amy Ryzak; his grandchildren, Sunday, Megan, Jerrika, Anthony, Joseph and Nathan; and his great grandchildren, Zane, Daphne, Julia, Betty, Anja, and Xander, who is due in July.
