John (Jack) Joseph Scully passed away on March 29, 2019. He was 87 years old and was surrounded by love at the end of his life.
He was born in Lancaster PA on July 27, 1931 and was raised in Cleveland Ohio. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and loved dancing with his daughters to “Waltzing Matilda”, and other classic tunes, whenever he had a chance. He became a resident of Texas in the early 80’s where he resided in Dallas until he moved to Whitney with his wife Connie in 2004 to enjoy their golden years quietly and sail his sailboat.
John was preceded in death by his mother Merle (Woods) Stern, his father Jerry Scully, his step-father Herman Stern, his brother Thomas Scully and both of his sisters Barbara (Storch) and Pat (Bartolozzi). He is survived by his wife Connie (Lee), his daughters Tracey (Fults), Patsi (Hogan), Bridget (Smith), his son-in-law Shannon Smith, and his son, Sean (Scully) as well as his step children Jeff, Greg and Tammy. He had 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
John served his country in the Korean War (Navy) by supplying communications to the naval ships while he supplied the native girls on Truck Island with wit and charm, as the story goes. He was an avid golfer his entire life despite shooting “wrong handed” and was a proud member of AA for over 40 years where he was able to give back to those struggling to overcome alcohol addiction, as he did in the earlier years of his life. He was very proud of his time in AA, and that he made amends with his children through the program.
Over his lifetime, John was in sales in many different areas. He could sell anything, including “ice to an Eskimo” as he said many times. He was very proud of the deals he made with many people over the years, but especially those he worked on with his brother, Tom. We know he is with Tom, his beloved Mom – our “Nana” – and both his sisters now, most likely trying to talk them into the next big thing.
John’s family would like to thank all the staff at Town Hall Estates for the loving care they provided, when he needed it most.
John asked that we not have a memorial or make a fuss. We are honoring his wishes but if you would like to memorialize his life, we suggest a donation to www.alz.org/donate to help find a cure or to Town Hall Estates/Hillsboro, 300 Happy Lane, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
Chuid eile i síocháin Dad – we love you.
