John Smith

John Richard Smith, 66, of Hillsboro passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at Providence Health Care Center in Waco. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 1, 2013, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro with Rev. Paul Clark officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 31, 2013, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

John was born February 4, 1947 in Hillsboro to Clarence James and Ruth (Allen) Smith. A 1966 graduate of Bynum High School, he went on to obtain his Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Baylor University in 1970. For a short time, he worked at Grant Buie Hospital in accounting. John also owned and operated a gas station in Hillsboro for 15 years and still had rental properties in Hillsboro that he maintained. In his spare time he enjoyed playing pool with his friends and playing dominoes. An avid hunter, he especially loved going dove hunting. He was a member of Walnut Street Missionary Baptist Church in Hillsboro.

Preceding him in death was his father, Clarence James “Bub” Smith.

Survivors include his mother, Ruth Murphree of Hillsboro; brother, Jimmy Smith and wife, Donna, of Robinson; sister, Jacque Bearden of Hillsboro; five nieces and nephews; and ten great-nieces and great-nephews.
