Johnnie Odom

Johnnie Holland Odom, 96 years young, slipped away to her heavenly home on Monday, June 10, 2013, in the arms of her beloved husband, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home Chapel, 101 San Marcus, in Whitney, TX with Pastor Mike Kerzee of King Memorial United Methodist Church of Whitney officiating.

Johnnie was born the youngest of six children on March 6, 1917, in Palestine to sharecroppers John Franklin and Jewel Pierce Holland. She loved gardening and during the early years, while living in Post, received “The Most Beautiful Yard of the Year” award on numerous occasions. She was a devout Baptist, saved, and was well aware of her destination and is now rejoicing with her Lord and Savior.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her brothers, Harman, Odell, Omar and Carmel Holland; sister, Bertha Holland; and many relatives and friends.

Johnnie is survived and loved by her devoted and caring husband, Jack Clyde Odom; his children, Jack Clifford Odom and wife, Mary, Phyllis Fife and husband Jimmy, Kay Odom and Gwen Jumper; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her nephew Bobby Holland and wife Melba.

The family wishes to express deep appreciation to the caregivers and staff of Town Hall Estates and American Hospice for the continual loving care given Johnnie during her Alzheimer’s illness.

In lieu of flowers, any expressions of love for Johnnie may be made to the First United Methodist Church Missions Fund, P.O. Box 114, Cleburne, TX 76033 or the charity of one’s choice.
