Johnnie Thomas

Johnnie Mae Thomas, 94, of Burleson, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, while residing at Covenant Place in Burleson, Texas. Funeral services will be under the direction of Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors of Whitney and will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, October 29, 2015, at the Open Range Cowboy Church of Whitney with Dr. Gerald Dudley officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 AM until Noon prior to the service. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Cleburne.

Johnnie was born on March 25, 1921 in May, Texas, to the late Dury P. and Minnie (Loflin) McBride. She spent her school years in May. On July 23, 1938, she married Neel Thomas and he preceded her in death on October 10, 1995. They moved to Whitney in 1968. Johnnie worked several years as a bookkeeper for Vandervoots Milk and Levines Department stores.

“Ms. Johnnie”, as she was referred to by her many friends at the Open Range Cowboy Church, loved working in her yard and planting her garden. She also enjoyed selling her produce to people that came from all around, and they especially looked forward to her tomatoes every year. Johnnie enjoyed spending time with her large family and circle of friends.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 57 years Neel H. Thomas; her parents; and a grandson, Grover E. White Jr.

Survivors include her daughters, Fredricka White and husband, Grover, Patricia McGilvray and husband, James; 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

The family wants to extend our love and thanks to everyone at Covenant Place and to Mission Hospice for their love and care they gave her for the past 10 months.
