Jonell (Martin) Permenter, 87, of Hillsboro, Texas, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in Burleson, Texas. Graveside services will take place at 2:00 pm, Monday, February 3, 2025, at Peoria Cemetery, Peoria, Texas, with Pastor Clay Strawn officiating. A visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 PM, Monday, February 3, 2025, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Born September 16, 1937, in Waco, Texas to Lester V. and Lillian Orea (Cockrell) Martin, she lived in Waco until the age of nine. The family then moved to China Spring where Jonell helped her father on their dairy farm, milking forty dairy cows every day.
Jonell married Mack Permenter on January 7, 1977, and he preceded her in death on October 31, 1981.
She enjoyed reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, dancing, and watching polka dancing on television. Jonell was also an avid football fan. She was a member of The United Pentecostal Church.
Jonell was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Permenter; her parents, Lester and Lillian Martin; three sons, Martin Keith Custer, Joe Anthony Custer and Bobby Eugene Custer; her brother, Lester Martin; and her sister, Peggy Barnes. She is survived by her sisters, Lillian Laverne Nyuo and her husband, Gary, Oneida Yvonne Akin and her husband, Thurman; five grandchildren, Julie Custer, Amanda Custer, Clifford Custer, Bryan Custer, and Daniel Custer; and nine great-grandchildren.
