Joseph “Dan” Allen, 66, of Whitney, passed away at his residence on June 16, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, June 19, 2015, at Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney, with Dr. Gerald Dudley officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM, Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.
Dan was born on June 13, 1949 in Fort Worth, to the late Jasper and Mary Alice (Bing) Allen.
On May 31, 1975, he married Candace Alicia in Moncks Corner, SC. A fireman and volunteer fireman for about 40 years, he also served as fire chief for both Everman and Lake View.
He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era.
He enjoyed farming, the outdoors, and his horses. A faithful and active member of the Open Range Cowboy Church, he especially enjoyed serving and working at the church. An very active member of the Lake Whitney Arts Theater, he enjoyed acting and participating in the play. He was a member of the American Legion Post #522 in Whitney.
Dan worked most of his life as a mechanic and he retired from TXDOT in 2013.
Survivors include his wife, Candy Allen of Whitney; children, Lee Moore and wife, Peggy of St. George, SC, Ronnie Moore and wife Angie of Burleson, Rayna Whitney and husband, Adam of Cleburne; brother, Cecil Allen and wife Jean of Whitney; sister, Helen Esters of Burleson; eight grandchildren, Amanda, Robbie, Ryan, Chelbye, Chandler, Christian, Clarissa, and Conner; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
