Joseph Weldon Summerhill, 97, of Hillsboro, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017, in Tyler. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory with Rev. Ken James officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, June, 30, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Weldon was born August 27, 1920 in Hillsboro to Mack Roy and Birdie Mae (Pryor) Summerhill. He grew up in Hillsboro where he attended school. In 1942, he entered the United States Army and served in Okinawa.

On April 5, 1944, Weldon was united in marriage to Mary Boyse. Following their wedding, the couple moved to Fort Worth and lived there until moving back to Hillsboro in 1979. For over 30 years, he worked as an aircraft assembler at Lockheed Martin.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro and the Masonic Lodge in Fort Worth.

Weldon was devoted to his family and grandkids. A warm caring person, he was always a true gentleman with a gentle, kind spirit. He was a lover of the great outdoors.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Mary Summerhill on May 2, 2010; and six siblings.

Survivors include his two children, Mike Summerhill and wife, Janice, of Hillsboro and Paula Loe and husband, Ronald, of Longview; brother, James Summerhill and wife, Greda, of Aledo; seven grandchildren, Brad Hickey of Fort Worth, Jennifer Cobb of Austin, Aaron Summerhill of Grandview, Megan Forbes of Seattle, WA, Lindsey Loe of Orlando, FL, Michael Loe of Longview, and Lauren Loe of Orlando, FL; sixteen great-grandchildren, Natosha Hickey, Cheyenne Hickey, Austin Cobb, Noah Warren, Emma Grace Warren, Ella Summerhill, Lucy Loe, Preston Cobb, Madeline Forbes, Olivia Forbes, Abbott Summerhill, Vivi Loe, Tilson Loe, Temple Loe, Coleman Stout, and Hannah Stout; and two great-great grandchildren, Gage and Cole Andow.
