Juan G. Perez, 91, of Hillsboro passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Providence Hospice Place in Waco. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro with Rev. Ouseph Thekkumthala of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Born June 26, 1925 in Hillsboro, Juan was the son of Hipolito and Hilaria (Soto) Perez. He lived in Hillsboro most of his life and graduated from Hillsboro High School. He went on to attend MCC. In 1950, Juan entered the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon his return to Hillsboro, he worked a number of years for Charlie House. On January 13, 1969, he was united in marriage to Juanita Camargo. That same year, he became the custodian of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro.
Juan was very active in civic affairs. He served on the Hillsboro City Council and was an officer for Hillsboro LULAC. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and life member of Hillsboro VFW Post #8571, where he served as post commander from 1996-1998. Juan enjoyed visiting the nursing homes and helping in anyway he could. His spare time was spent working with the veterans’ organizations to help our service men and women. He also had a soft spot in his heart for stray cats.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Juanita Perez on July 23, 1998; one sister; and two brothers.
Survivors include his brother, Alex Perez and wife, Pat, of Hillsboro; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
