Juanita Kennedy Erwin, 79, of Hillsboro died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Kindred Hospital Southwest in Fort Worth. Juanita was born September 16, 1928 in Aquilla, Texas the daughter of Drew Marion and Elsie Ethel Foushee Kennedy. One of the highlights of her early years, was going to school in Aquilla and winning state basketball championships in 1944, 1945, and 1946, coached by John P. Cox. In 1946, she married John Erwin, who had just returned home from serving his country in WWII. In 1947, they welcomed daughter Tricia into the family, followed in December of 1949 by daughter Gayle. Gayle married Larry Vrana in 1974, whom they welcomed and he has been a great blessing to the family. They have three dogs, Wishbone, Foxey, and Ruby Tuesday, who have given much love to the family. Juanita was a true southern lady who loved her church, First Baptist Church in Hillsboro, and she loved her church family who were always there for her. She was a member of Eastern Star #769 and the Democratic Women's Club. She was a fierce champion of her family and friends and they brought her the greatest joy in life. Preceding her in death were her parents; four sisters, Mary Williford, Gladys Riddle, Leona Dean, and Doris Utley; and a brother, Cecil Kennedy. Survivors include her husband, John W. Erwin of Hillsboro; two daughters, Patricia Erwin of Hillsboro and Gayle Vrana and husband, Larry, of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Christian School, P. O. Box 271, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
