Juanita Johnson

Juanita “Nita” Johnson, 79, of Hillsboro passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 29, 2017, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Stephen Bradley of Abbott Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Bell Springs Cemetery near Abbott. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, March 31, at the funeral home.

Born November 10, 1937 in Abbott, Nita was the daughter of Phillip and Hallie Viola (Holder) Woodruff. She was a 1956 graduate of Abbott High School. On July 29, 1961, she was united in marriage to Robert Eldon Stafford and he preceded her in death on July 15, 1990. For many years, she was employed at Cox’s Department Store in Waco and College Hill Nursery in Hillsboro before working alongside her husband on their farm in Abbott. She later married Fred Johnson and he preceded her in death on January 20, 2015. Nita enjoyed collecting dolls, being outdoors, working in her garden, and tending to her flowers. She was a member of Abbott Baptist Church.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, Thomas Woodruff.

Survivors include her sister, Virginia Sullins; brother, Eugene Woodruff and wife, Sharla; step-daughters, Carolyn Schaffer and husband, Tommy, and Beverly Beam; four nephews, Rick Sullins and wife, Louise, Lance Sullins and wife, Lanette, Phil Woodruff, and Greg Woodruff; niece, Debra Kay Hall; four great-nephews; three great nieces; two great-great nephews; one great-great niece; four step-grandchildren; and nine step-great grandchildren.
