June Overton Carmichall, 87, of Hillsboro passed away peacefully Saturday morning June 25, 2016, at her residence. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, June 28, at the First Baptist Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Danny Gilliam and Rev. Ken James officiating. Burial will follow at the Blum Cemetery in Blum. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
June was born November 9, 1928, in Crosby County, Texas, daughter of the late Jessie W. and Toni (Freeman) Overton. She grew up in Whitney and was a graduate of Whitney High School. She also attended both Draughans Business College in Fort Worth and Hill College in Hillsboro. On November 25, 1954, she was united in marriage to Jim Carmichall from Blum.
She began her career working for both First National Bank of Whitney and later First National Bank of Fort Worth before spending 42 years as an executive secretary with Texas Power & Light (TXU), from which she retired. In addition, she was a licensed real estate salesperson and also served for many years as record keeper for the Aquilla-Hackberry Creek Conservation District. Always active and civically involved, she was a member of Les Causeuses Club and served on the Hill County Museum Board of Directors.
A dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro for more than 50 years, she taught 4 and 5 year-olds Sunday School for over 20 years, served on the church accounting team, and served as the church librarian each Sunday morning for many years. June was a member of the Esther Sunday School Class and sang in the church choir. In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening, tending to flowers, and sitting and sunning on her deck. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and lovingly spoiling her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Jim Carmichall; one brother, Jessie R. Overton; and two sisters, Senneth Raye Epps and Joyce “Sue” Brown.
Survivors include her daughter, Jacquelene “Jacque” Morris and husband, Ben, of Cleburne; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Michele Morris of Crested Butte, CO; one grandson, 1st Lt. Matthew Joseph Morris, USMC, and wife, Melissa, of Okinawa, Japan; one brother, Charles Overton and wife, Eileen, of Whitney; two sisters, Wanda Auten and Celia “Polly” Caperton, both of Whitney; and a number of nephews and nieces.
