June Ann (McLaughlin) Gilstrap passed away July 10, 2023, in Hillsboro, Texas surrounded by her loving family. A visitation will be held July 13, 2023, at 9:00 am at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro, Texas, with the service following at 10:00 am. Burial to follow at the Itasca Cemetery.
June was born to Kenneth and Jessie (Maple) McLaughlin on June 5, 1941, in Carrolton Ohio. She was the youngest of three children, joining older brothers Bob and Dick. June attended and graduated from Carrolton High School. June attended Elkhart University earning her degree in laboratory technology. June thrived in her field and served many years as the head of the lab at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas where she was highly respected and affectionately known as Ms. Dodie.
On April 1, 1983, June found her perfect companion when she married Robert Gilstrap. June said, “I do” and inherited a ready-made family of two daughters, two sons-in-law and four grandchildren. June and Robert made their home in Hillsboro for the past forty years. June loved unconditionally and was always the first to step forward and ask what she could do to help. She was an avid hunter, rancher and gardener. No one ever left June’s home without feeling special. She could be building a fence in the morning and dress to be an elegant lady for an evening meal.
June was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bob McLaughlin and son-in-law Gary Cole. June is survived by her husband Robert Gilstrap, daughters Susan Bason and husband Daniel of Itasca, Debbie Cole of Itasca; grandchildren, Kristi Sargent and husband Kyle of Itasca, Melony Kirkpatrick and husband Jason of Itasca, Kelly Tinklenberg and husband Mike of North Dakota and Cory Cole and fiancé Corina Eason of Itasca; brother, Dick McLaughlin and wife Joanne of Arizona; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Earhart for his compassionate and Christian care, to Dr. Seely for his outstanding care while June was on hospice care, and the entire nursing staff of Hill Regional Hospital that cared for June and saw to our family’s every need for nine days. Thank you to our Community Healthcare of Texas Hospice team for being with us every step of the way.
