Karl Jack Carter, 91, of Hillsboro went to be with his Lord on Monday, April 11, 2011, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Paul Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at the funeral home.

Karl was born in Proctor the youngest son of John Virgil, Sr. and Nora (Brown) Carter on July 31, 1919. He grew up in Comanche County and graduated from Comanche High School in 1936. During World War II, he was drafted into the Army as a private and served in the Pacific Theatre. Upon returning, Karl worked for the government in a civil service finance office in Brownwood before being transferred to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio where he met Christene Everett. They were married on October 26, 1946 in San Antonio, where they lived for over 30 years.

He was called back to active duty during the Korean Conflict and sent to St. Louis, MO to attend officer training school. Upon completion of school, he returned to Texas and they were stationed at Fort Hood in Killeen. They returned to San Antonio and Karl Jack transferred to the Air Force. Upon his discharge from active duty, he went into the Air Force Reserve as a finance officer and retired as a Lt. Colonel. He continued to work for the government in civil service in the finance office at Kelly Air Force Base until retiring in 1974.

Following their retirement, the Carters moved to Hillsboro where they resided for the next 36 years. For 15 years, they owned and operated A Country Garden Flower Shoppe before retiring once again. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hillsboro and had served as an ordained Deacon in several churches prior to Hillsboro. Karl was preceded in death by Chris on February 16, 2005, his parents, two brothers, and four sisters.

Survivors include his daughter, Karon Carter, of Hillsboro and many nieces and nephews.
