Katherine “Kate” McCoy Powers, 89, formerly of Hillsboro, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends Friday evening, November 2, 2012, in Temple. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Kate was born August 16, 1923 in Hillsboro, to parents Virgil and Bonnie (Haney) McCoy who both preceded her in death. On August 13, 1947, she married Leslie Powers and he also preceded her in death on November 28, 2008.
Lovingly known to her grandchildren as “Mimi” and to her nieces, nephews, and friends as “Kate”, she enjoyed family reunions and holiday get-togethers. She loved to cook and sew and in her later years was able to travel with her husband to Hawaii, Florida, Nashville, Colorado, and Arkansas. A member of the Methodist Church, Kate participated in both adult and children’s Sunday school education for many years.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne Tucker and Tom Hendricks of Belton; granddaughter, Haley Tucker of Australia; grandson, Carson Tucker and his wife, Mika, and great-granddaughter, Quinn Marie Tucker all of North Little Rock, AR; one sister, Helen McCoy Lavender and husband, George, of Arlington; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy McCoy of Abilene, Virginia McCoy of Hewitt, and Valerie McCoy of Dallas; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
