Kenneth “Cotton” Harwell, 85, of Hillsboro passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2015, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Leah Hidde-Gregory of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday, July 4, at the funeral home.
Cotton was born September 6, 1929 in Abbott to Leslie and Sally Mae (Plunkett) Harwell. He grew up in Abbott and graduated from Abbott High School and Navarro College. He served his country in the United States Navy. On September 15, 1955, he was united in marriage to Mary Nell Terry. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2015. The couple operated Cotton Harwell’s Mobil Station and Wrecker Service for 20 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, the Roundup Club, and a 50 plus year member of the Masonic Lodge.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Ray Harwell; and sister, Martha Jo Crosby.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews and other extended family.
