Kenneth Hasten

Kenneth Hasten, 71, of Mertens, passed away on January 19, 2016, at a Hillsboro hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 22, 2016, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery in Mertens. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m, Thursday at the funeral home.

Kenneth was born on March 28, 1944, in Waxahachie, to Leonard and Nelta (Thomas) Hasten. He grew up in Mertens and graduated from Italy High School. In June of 1967, he received a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from University of Texas in Austin.

He worked around the country on various engineering projects in the nuclear power plant field. Kenneth worked as a consultant for NASA while he farmed from 1996 until his retirement in 2015. He owned and operated a century farm that he was proud of putting back together after several years.

Survivors include his wife, Freda Hasten of Mertens; children, Kyle Hasten of Mertens and Michelle Klumb of Jourdanton; grandchildren, Shelby Hasten, Jaxon Smithey and Kylyn Smithey.
