L. D. Murphy Sr

L. D. Murphy, Sr., 81, of Whitney passed away on March 28, 2007 at his residence. He was the son of Miles Henry and Alta Beulah Higgins Murphy. On March 11, 1950, L. D. married Sue Hutchison in Whitney, TX. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. L. D. worked 38 years as maintenance foreman for the Corps of Engineers at Lake Whitney and worked for Town Hall Estates for 17 years in maintenance. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Whitney where he served as assistant to Sunday School secretary for many years and was also an usher. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #8571. He coached little league, umpired baseball, loved gardening and riding his lawn mower. L. D. loved his family very much, kids and sports. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Gayle Murphy; son, Lee Dale Murphy, Jr.; 2 brothers, Earl Murphy, Floyd Murphy and sister, Geneva Shaw. Survivors include his wife, Sue of Whitney; daughter, Dawn Murphy of Whitney; brothers, Ralph Murphy and wife, Jeanette, of Aquilla, M. H. Murphy and wife, Ruth of Jones, LA, Gilbert Murphy and wife, Melba of Clifton; sisters, Ivy Brockett of Whitney, Ruth Aston of Whitney, Frankie Rose of Whitney; granddaughter, Tiffany Murphy of Aquilla; daughter-in-law, Pam Murphy-Clepper of Aquilla.
