Lanny Steele

Lanny Arthur”Big Iron" Steele 75, of Whitney passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Town Hall Estates in Whitney.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 11, 2019 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney, officiating will be Mr. David Snipes. A visitation will held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Smith Bend Coon Creek Cemetery.

Lanny was born on November 30, 1943 in Hillsboro to Arthur and Lonye M. Steele. Lanny graduated from Aquilla High School in 1962. He married Marita Hill on May 25, 1965 in Hillsboro. He worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice from 1967 until he retired as a warden in 1993 at the age of 50. After retirement he moved to Hillsboro and worked at the Limestone Detention Center as the director. Lanny then finished out his career as the Hillsboro Municipal Court Judge before retiring completely. After retirement he enjoyed playing dominoes in downtown Hillsboro.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lonye Steele.

He is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Marita Steele of Whitney, a son Keith Steele of Whitney, daughters, Shanna Jones and husband, Mike and Kim Austin and husband Ben all of Whitney. Five grandchildren, Shelbey Guerrero of College Station, Stacey Guerrero of Whitney, Bailee and McKinlee Sheddan and Kasen Austin of Whitney, brother Sammy Steele of Hillsboro and two nephews.
