Leamon Hall

Leamon “Lee” William Hall, 75, of Whitney, passed away and entered into God’s hands on March 14, 2019. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m.- Noon Monday, March 25, 2019 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro prior to graveside services with military honors at 2:15 p.m. at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery Monday, March 25, 2019

Leamon was born at the old St. Paul Hospital in Dallas, Texas on May 28, 1943, to Earnest and Hazel (Owens) Hall. He attended South Oak Cliff High School and graduated in 1961. Shortly after graduation he started a career with Coca Cola Bottling, located at the old plant on 2nd Ave. in Dallas. He went through many different uniforms and delivery routes in his 30 years as a “Coke Man”. During his time at Coca Cola, he was drafted into the United States Army serving with the Americal, 198th Light Infantry Unit , that was newly formed before, the TET offensive. He served honorably and proudly in Vietnam from 1967-1968. When he returned, it was to a country that was in turmoil and consumed with hatred for soldiers who were proud to be called upon to fight against the spread of communism. He never got over the hateful treatment shown towards returning Vietnam Veterans. In his military uniform, with no “civilian clothes” yet, he was spit on and cursed while on his journey home, by bus, to Texas from Fort Lewis, Washington. In later years he found solace and healing through his PTSD group of veterans and leaders who he was forever grateful for in receiving all the help he needed. He was always encouraging any veteran he met or knew, to seek the help they needed.

After retirement from Coca Cola, he and his wife Donna, set out on a long bucket list of travels. Only a few States remained to be explored. Travel and traveling to historic areas were his “hobbies”. The highlight and excitement of his life were the trips taken overseas. Leamon was not a fisherman, but took many trips back to Alaska, when he found the fun of salmon fishing, and cooking it up himself. Then he surprised himself again, finding the fun of snorkeling, Every chance he got on trips near the ocean, the underwater world was always explored! He was an all American man. His parents taught him his great work ethic and principled living. His kindness, humor, strong will and love of country, guided him in his way through life. After his age slowed him down on the golf course, he found the fun of playing Texas Hold’em and other card games with great groups of friends and family. We will all remember him saying, “A check, that's for the bank, as he showed his winning hand.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Earnest and Hazel; sister, Dorothy; and brother, Vernon; infant brother, Earnest Wilson(EW); brother-n-law, Sonny; nephew, Wesley; aunts, Winnie, Tennie and Floyce; uncles, Jack, Buddy and Marvin.

He was survived by his wife, Donna of 42 years; daughter, Laura; son-in-law, Ray; grandson, Casey; nieces, Vickie, Sandy and Toni; sister-n-law, Louise; nephew, David; cousins, Deanna and Myra; and a whole host of 2nd and 3rd cousins, and great nieces and great nephews.
