Lee Cosby, 98, of Mertens passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Renaissance Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Italy, TX. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to service time.
Lee was born April 27, 1925, in Rosebud, TX, to V. C. and Madora (Collier) Cosby. From the age of 16, Lee began his working career. He was a farmer and rancher most all his life. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII and loved President Truman.
On November 25, 1944, he was united in marriage to Geneva Stringer in Milford. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. His grandchildren believed that “Pa” could do and fix anything. He was known for carving canes from tree limbs, and he also enjoyed hunting for arrowheads.
A true gentleman, Lee was kind to others and was always willing to help anyone who needed help.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Rufus, Paul, Gene, Joe Ben, David, and Wayne; son, Terry Cosby; and grandson, Robert Chambers.
Survivors include his loving wife of 78 years, Geneva Cosby; children, Johnnie Lee Cosby and wife, Patsy, and Carolyn Childress; brothers, Tim Cosby and wife, Janie, and John Cosby and wife, Lois; grandchildren, Mo, Craig, Matthew, Clay, Jana, Melissa, and Rod; great-grandchildren, Kaden and Klaira; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
