Lela Murphy

Lela Murphy, 99 of Mt. Vernon and formerly of Whitney passed away on May 13, 2012.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Plainview Memorial Park Cemetery in Plainview, Texas. Visitation will held Monday, May 14, 2012 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney from 3 - 9 P.M.

Lela was born on September 9, 1912 in Gatesville to the late Virgil and Jenny Dobson Hill.
She grew up in Taylor County and married A. C. Murphy in Georgetown on March 3, 1934. Lela then moved to Pottsboro where she resided until 1988 when she moved to Whitney and then to Mr. Pleasant in 2001. She was of the Baptist faith.

Preceding her in death were her husband on September 15, 1954; son, Billy Ray Murphy; 6 brothers and 5 sisters.

Survivors include her children, Lloyd Murphy and wife, JoAnn of Whitney, Melvin Murphy and wife, Lavada of Winfield, Larry Murphy and wife, Rosemary of Midlothian; 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
