Biography
Lena Yates Bayless, 88, of Houston passed away Monday, March 12, 2012, at Woodridge Nursing Home in Houston. Graveside services will be held at Noon on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro with Mr. Glen MacDonald officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Lena was born March 8, 1924 in Hill County the daughter of John and Cora (Rhoden) Yates. She grew up in the Hillsboro area, graduated from Hillsboro Hill School, and attended Hill Junior College for two years. After college, she moved to Dallas where she married John Bayless on August 9, 1942. He preceded her in death on September 8, 1996. She worked with her husband in his tire store as a bookkeeper and receptionist. The couple lived in Dallas until moving to the Memorial Area of Houston in 1961. Lena was very good at gardening and enjoyed entertaining. She was a member of Memorial Church of Christ in Houston.
Also preceding her in death were her parents and four sisters, Ruth, Norine, Margie, and Doris.
Survivors include her daughter, Binnie Austin of Houston; brother, John Yates of Garland; sister Nadine Bean; and one granddaughter, Tori Austin of Houston.
