Leona was born on March 19, 1914 to Otto and Theresa Turk in Winters, Runnels Co. Texas. She is the seventh of ten children. On December 15, 1934, she married Herbert ?Bubie? Piel of Malone Texas. They lived in the Walling community and Malone for their 60 years of marriage. Leona was very active in St. Peter Lutheran Church where she participated and held leadership roles in Sunday school, choir and the Women?s Society. She worked with Bubie on the farm but also during ginning season kept books on the night shift for Farmer?s Coop Gin. In her mid 60?s, she served as cook for the Malone School for eight years. In 1998, she moved in with her daughter and family in Robinson spending her last six months in a local nursing home. She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert ?Bubie? Piel; parents, Otto & Theresa Turk; brothers, Otto, Bill and Carl Turk; and sisters, Alma Baack, Hilda Bredemeyer, and Hertha Bates. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Betty and husband Jimmy Penney of Robinson; sisters, Hattie Minzenmayer of Winters, and Elfrieda, and husband Lamar Muston of Marble Falls; brother, Raymond ?Sam? Turk of Cuero; grandchildren, Mike Penney of Irene, and Mark and wife Laura Penney of Waco; great-grand children; Rhoda and husband Joe Myers of Waco, Michael Penney of Robinson and Chris Penney of Waco.
