Lesley Ellen Stewart

Lesley Ellen Stewart, age 84, of Whitney, Texas, passed away peacefully July 24, 2024 in Fort Worth, Texas with her devoted husband and children by her side. Visitation will be August 1, 2024 from noon to 2:00 p.m., followed by Lesley’s Memorial Service at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney, Texas. Interment Service followed by burial will take place August 2, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Lesley was born in Perth, Western Australia, to her loving parents Leonard and Dora Coulter. She joined two older sisters and later became fierce protector and partner in mischief to her beloved younger brother. Lesley was a jovial, good-natured firecracker who loved swimming and traveling, regaling her family with tales of car trips across the Outback. At school, Lesley excelled in several subjects and played field hockey, but found her true passion in caring for others as she completed her training to become a Registered Nurse and Midwife. Early in her career, Lesley worked several jobs at once to embark on the biggest adventure of her life, and what an adventure it was. She made a six-week journey across the Pacific by ship, stopping in several exotic
ports before disembarking in the United States, then traversing the country to New York, where she began working at a Manhattan hospital and taking solo trips to East Coast cities during her time off. Lesley cared for hundreds of patients and their families during her nursing career of 43 years before retiring in Fort Worth and later moving to Whitney after her husband’s retirement.

Lesley met the love of her life, George, in New York. It was love at first sight and they married in August 1964, beginning a life of joint adventure around the world with George’s military career. During their time off, Lesley and George traveled in several countries with favorites including England, Greece, Brazil, and Turkey, and they enjoyed several road trips across the U.S. and Canada. Lesley passed her love of adventure on to her children, Suzanne and David, to whom she was a devoted, selfless, loving mother. She spent many hours reading with her children, took them on countless micro-adventures, especially during their time living in Spain, and spent hours volunteering at school and extracurricular activities. Lesley was overjoyed when she became
a Nana later in life to her cherished grandchildren, Atticus, Katharina, and Anasthasia. Throughout her life, Lesley adored animals and she gave a loving lifelong home to numerous pets, including several abandoned dogs, who had the best mother pets could wish for. Lesley will be remembered for her loving, caring, selfless, jovial, good-hearted nature, sense of humor, and her spunky spirit. Rest in peace – you are forever in our hearts and loved beyond measure.

Lesley was preceded in death by her parents and siblings in Australia.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, George, daughter Suzanne (San Antonio, Texas), and son David and daughter-in-law Heidi and their three children (Greenville, North Carolina), and several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews in Australia and the United States.
